Groom Awards

Recognizing horsemanship, professionalism, and pride.

Behind every successful racehorse is a dedicated groom whose hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to equine care often go unnoticed by the public. The MTHA Best Turned Out Awards program was created to recognize and celebrate those individuals who consistently present their horses at the highest standard.

During each live racing program at Laurel Park, a designated MTHA representative selects one groom from every race whose horse exemplifies outstanding turnout, conditioning, professionalism, and paddock presentation. Each winner receives a $25 Amazon Gift Card and recognition from the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association.

The program is designed not only to reward excellence, but also to highlight the critical role that grooms play in the success of Maryland’s Thoroughbred industry. From the earliest morning hours through race time, these hardworking men and women are responsible for the daily care, health, and well-being of the horses entrusted to them.

Award recipients are selected in the paddock prior to each race and are recognized for the pride they take in their work and the exceptional care they provide. Winners are periodically featured in MTHA communications and the Horsemen’s Happenings newsletter.

The MTHA is proud to honor the individuals whose dedication behind the scenes helps showcase Maryland racing at its very best.
