MTHA’s Free Health Fair - October 8

The annual Health Fair sponsored by the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and staffed by MedStar Health and Adventist HealthCare LifeWork Strategies will take place Tuesday, Oct. 8. The event will run from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and be held in the Recreation Room at Laurel Park.
Flu shots will be available and phlebotomists will be hand to draw blood for testing. The results will be mailed to each patient and the Maryland Horsemen’s Health System.
The MedStar physicians who staff the Horsemen’s Health System urge regular patients from the backstretch to have their blood drawn at the Health Fair rather than wait until a condition develops. There also is a sizable cost savings for the MTHA given the arrangement with Adventist LifeWork.
The MTHA added an extra hour to this year’s Health Fair and has planned for up to 100 blood draws. This is a first-come, first-served event.
Adventist LifeWork staff this year has requested that the MTHA provide in advance of the event a list of people that plan to have blood drawn. The MTHA already has begun compiling a list to facilitate the process.
