MJC Updates Mrc On Surface, Negotiations

The Maryland Jockey Club provided the Maryland Racing Commission April 4 with an update on the recent dirt surface renovation project at Laurel Park and ongoing negotiations with the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Maryland Horse Breeders Association regarding a new racing agreement.
“We did fairly significant maintenance work,” MJC Acting President Mike Rogers said. “We scraped the cushion from the half-mile pole to the quarter-mile pole. The integrity of the base is extremely sound.”

Laurel Park will offer 25 stakes worth a total of $2.8 million from January through April highlighted by a pair of $200,000 sprint fixtures and two $150,000 events for 3-year-olds that offer guaranteed spots in the Preakness Stakes and Black-Eyed Susan Stakes.
