MJC releases MD Million veterinary protocols

The Maryland Jockey Club has released the following veterinary protocols for the Oct. 14 Maryland Million program at Laurel Park:

Horses stabled at Laurel, Pimlico Race Course and the Fair Hill Training Center will be receiving training saddle towels that must be worn beginning Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Those with horses stabled at a racetrack other than Laurel, Pimlico or Fair Hill must let the entry clerk know at what facility the horse is stabled. They will have a time set up with a regulatory veterinarian at that facility to observe the horse.

Those with horses stabled at a farm must have their private veterinarian send Dr. Dionne Benson of 1/ST Racing (The Stronach Group) an email (Dionne.Benson@stronachgroup.com) stating that the vet has examined the horse—including palpitation of the front limbs and observation of the horse at a jog—and in the vet’s opinion the horse is fit to run.

The examination must occur with three days of entering the horse. Entry day is Sunday, Oct. 8.
