In an effort to improve communication and productive discussion amongst our community, the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association is testing the concept of WhatsApp groups specific to the following groups: Laurel Park trainers, Pimlico Race Course trainers, and Maryland jockeys.
All three groups will be a part of a WhatsApp community for the Maryland Thoroughbred racing industry and be able to receive relevant updates and alerts specific for the community. Each group will be able to have secure conversations, limited to just their group, on topics such as feedback for the track surfaces at Laurel and Pimlico, community announcements and events, etc.
WhatsApp will not be a platform for inflammatory and offensive behavior, and each group will be strictly moderated for constructive, on-topic discussion. If the test goes well, then other groups could be created.
To request to join any of these initial groups, use the following QR Codes to join:

The MTHA will hold a public meeting Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time via Zoom to discuss a proposed digital auction process for horses receiving two or more claims in a claiming race.

An October 7 Daily Record article about proposed Maryland Racing Commission regulations has generated questions about increased penalties, medication enforcement and the state’s investment in Thoroughbred racing.
