Horsemen at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course are encouraged to use the email system established years ago by the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Maryland Jockey Club to report on barn and facilities-related issues.
The email address is backstretchissues@mdhorsemen.com. The emails are received by employees of the two organizations and are designed to facilitate as quick a resolution as possible. If you don’t have access to email MTHA and MJC staff can report the issues for you.
Among the things that have been reported are issues with stall doors, electricity, roof leaks and other structures, horse paths, rodents, laundry rooms and bathrooms. It is very helpful if you include a photo or photos with your email.
Should have issues or concerns about the racing surfaces at MJC tracks, use the email address trackissues@mdhorsemen.com

The MTHA will hold a public meeting Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time via Zoom to discuss a proposed digital auction process for horses receiving two or more claims in a claiming race.

An October 7 Daily Record article about proposed Maryland Racing Commission regulations has generated questions about increased penalties, medication enforcement and the state’s investment in Thoroughbred racing.
