Reminder On Notary Services

The MTHA provides free notary services to members of the backstretch community and other individuals working at Maryland racetracks. These services, conducted by a certified notary public, are regulated by the Maryland Office of the Secretary of State and must adhere to specific legal guidelines.
One of the most frequently notarized documents by MTHA staff at the racetracks is the bill of sale for horses. It is essential that the seller be physically present for notarization. While it is ideal for both buyer and seller to be present, this is not always feasible. However, the seller should make an effort to contact the buyer by phone during the notarization process to confirm the transaction.
Additionally, it is important to note that Maryland notaries cannot notarize documents intended for use in another state, and vice versa. However, MTHA staff can notarize a bill of sale where the buyer has already signed and had the document notarized in their respective state.
For more information or to schedule notary services, please contact the MTHA office at 410-902-6844.
