MTHA Toy Drive Spreads Joy This Christmas

Saturday, January 4, 2025

The annual MTHA Toy Drive, held on Dec. 21 in the Laurel Park track kitchen, brought holiday cheer to about 60 children who received toys and enjoyed a magical visit from Santa Claus. Organized with care by MTHA Office Manager Diana Pinones, who begins planning months in advance, the event was once again a heartwarming highlight of the season.

In addition to distributing toys to the children of backstretch employees, the event featured exciting drawings for bicycles, video games, and scooters. The Paz family generously provided delicious cookies, pastries, and hot chocolate, creating a festive atmosphere for the approximately 100 attendees.

The MTHA extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this special occasion. This includes those who brought toys to the Christmas Party earlier in December, the Maryland Jockey Club for organizing toy drives at Laurel Park, and the many owners, trainers, and jockeys who donated cash to help purchase gifts. A special thank-you goes to jockey agent John DiNatale for volunteering as Santa Claus, adding extra magic to the event.

This cherished tradition not only spreads holiday joy but also strengthens the bond within the Maryland racing community. The success of the Toy Drive demonstrates the generosity and spirit of those who work tirelessly to support backstretch families. Events like this remind us of the importance of coming together to celebrate and give back during the holiday season.
