Free Trips & Events Hosted By Frank Douglas Are A Hit

Wednesday, October 18, 2023

Frank Douglas, who coordinates events for backstretch workers on behalf of MTHA at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course, has prepared a slate of events for September and October that includes many trips off site.

A recent trip to Sandy Point State Park near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge proved popular as a maximum of 10 people attended. Two more trips to Sandy Point are planned for the remainder of this year.

“It was a good trip,” Douglas said. “It was sprinkling and it wasn’t sunny, but everybody brought their food and had a good time,”

In late August at Laurel, Douglas said more than 80 people attended an outdoor picnic featuring Spanish food prepared by Sylvia Gallegos, who was assisted by Fabiola Ramirez. It was funded through contributions from jockeys Jeiron Barbosa, Angel Cruz and Axel Concepcion.

Here is the schedule of upcoming events:

Monday, Sept. 5: Arundel Mills Mall (11a.m.-4 p.m.)

Monday, Sept. 11: Sandy Point State Park (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Monday, Sept. 25: Annapolis Mall (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Monday, Oct. 2: Smithsonian Institute (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Douglas said a Christmas-related event will be planned for December.
