Horsemen, veterinarians urged to attend mandatory equine health and safety meeting

The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, Maryland Racing Commission and Maryland Jockey Club will host a joint meeting Tuesday, July 2, at Laurel Park at which proactive approaches to equine health and safety measures and protocol will be addressed by a variety of speakers.

The meeting, which will begin at 11 a.m. in the Conference Room adjacent the Carriage Room in the grandstand, is mandatory for horsemen and veterinarians based at Laurel Park. A future meeting is planned to be scheduled at Pimlico.

Among those expected to speak are Maryland Racing Commission Executive Director Mike Hopkins; Alan Foreman, Chief Executive Officer of the Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and legal counsel for the MTHA; Dr. Libby Daniel, Equine Medical Director for the MRC; and members of the MJC management team and Racing Commission.
