Training canceled June 3 to allow for ground testing at Laurel

Training at Laurel on Monday, June 3, has been canceled in connection with preliminary testing required before the new Amish barn, or “stick barn” can be constructed not far from the gap near the three-eighths pole.

Maryland Jockey Club President Sal Sinatra May 30 said the work involves heavy equipment that will perform soil boring tests to ensure the designated construction area can take the necessary weight of the planned three-story structure. It was deemed better to allow the crew to try to get all the work done as quickly as possible rather than have it start after training on multiple days.

Sinatra said the noise level will be monitored June 3 to determine whether training could continue in conjunction with the project should it extend beyond the first day.
